On the radar:the art of Alessandro Gallo
Share
Contemporary artist born in Genoa, Italy, in 1974, Alessandro Gallo lived in London where he studied and worked as a painter and decorator. And it was also when he was studying that Gallo began experimenting with digital photography and creating digitally manipulated images, where he placed animals in city environments:polar bears on a subway platform, walruses in Trafalgar Square or goats in south London. (Yep, that's right!)
Only later would the figures for which he is (re) known and rewarded appear:hybrid, three-dimensional characters, sculpted in clay, with animal heads on human bodies.
Impressive for his realism (the sculptures), in these “strange encounters” (one of his individual exhibitions goes by the name of “Strange Encounters” ), Alessandro Gallo seems to be navigating the “complex set of human emotions”.
Half-humans, half-humanoid animals, they all have something in common:"they seek the union that, today, is more elusive than ever".
And because a picture is worth a thousand words, we leave you below photographs of some of the sculptures of Gallo's estate. Any resemblance to reality is pure coincidence ... or not!
